Ashton Keynes walk - Saturday 8 September 2018 Previous Next Outside the White Hart Ron tells the tale of Chalkie White of Minchinhampton who was murdered and whose body was found in the nearby lakes It doesn't look dangerous walking through Ashton Keynes today though Alongside the stream And the ducks look peaceful enough Past a house with mosaics And another overlooking the stream Past bullrushes And this lake Which is Somerford Lagoon And has a bird hide Wild hops and elderberries - very British Ron had warned us to be careful crossing the busy Spine Road This is where the path was. Keith was keen to try it but Ros insisted we followed her detour Past another lake Along the side of a field Into Somerford Keynes And the Bakers Arms Dog friendly but NOT walker friendly, as they refused to have our custom for lunch We recross the busy Spine Road Fortunately the path doesn't go there We get to the lake which does Water ski-ing What is this? It houses this UHF aerial cable but no aerial Back to the Thames Path The ducks now on the bank Virginia Creeper looking good We're back into Ashton Keynes And the White Hart which IS walker friendly And Ellison's garage.
