Avening walk - Wednesday 8 June 2016 Previous Next Why is everyone looking at Olivia? She's not leading John is. He checks his watch. Avening looking colourful today. We head up through the churchyard on this incredibly humid day Past wild roses And cultivated climbing ones. Lots of black lambs Very cute A mass of buttercups A procession through a flat field Very well-marked path This kissing gate doesn't look very accessible Pea (or bean?) shoots We come out by Chavenage House Where we could buy this dovecote for less than £163.60? Won't fit in my rucksack. Past dairy cows among the buttercups Back markers Jane and Graham doing a sterling job John clears the way into the wood And we eventually arrive in Tetbury. No-one opts for a makeover. We have to walk up the A433 Because this construction work seems to be in the way of our usual path A few poppies in the wheat After a lunch in the shade, we continue Unusual horse jumps We wait for everyone to catch up, taking advantage of the shade again, everyone flagging a bit in the heat. A field of barley Getting close to our destination We can spot part of this beautiful garden below But the non-functioning water fountain adds insult to injury on this hot day.
