Brookend walk - Saturday 15 June 2019 Previous Next Gwen is our leader today And we set off through fields Into Ernest Cook Trust land We stop for coffee with some shelter and are joined by dogs and dog-walkers The field of bullocks Gwen had warned us about Who follow us all the way to the gate Cattle Country. This will be the centre of the maze when these crops grow taller, we're told There are pony rides And deer Cattle Country - or Castle Country? Camera goes away because of the rain until we get to Berkeley Church where we eat lunch in the porch And look inside The effigies of Thomas III, 8th Lord Berkeley and his second wife, Katherine Gwen takes us out to the churchyard where Ray has sown these amazing wildflowers Back through Berkeley, the Mariners Arms still for sale Good name Through a housing development They are good with names around here They are excavating the old Berkeley Railway Station Here's the layout And this is what it looked like We pass more wildflowers as we walk across the fields back to Brookend.
