Chavenage leisurely walk - Monday 31 December 2018 Previous Next Chavenage Green. Trees robbed of their leaves By Winter's icy blasts Intrepid Ramblers ready to shake off seasonal sloth and gluttony As they take to Cotswolds rolling countryside Down into a dry valley where deer, fox, rabbit and field mouse watch from the secutity of their respective lairs And sheep watch with suspicion from across the vale The old Norman Church of Beverstone And the steep sides of the castle together providing the settlement with its spiritual and military protection for many years But our path leads us away Through a mysterious wood walking on a carpet of leaves, part of Autumn's bounty Our way is blocked by saplings strewn across the path Heads down. But little do we know that in the woods on our right Is Beverstone Old Break. Remains of accommodation provided for Babdown Airfield in the last war A gentle descent on a carpet of green Then a rocky path uphill Before we homeward plod our weary way pausing to examine some strange crops growing underfoot Photos and captions by Richard, uploaded by Sally
