Cirencester walk - Wednesday 30 November 2016 Previous Next Ros lays down the law as she gets our walk underway And we head off across fields Name of Ginger And into the new houses on the outskirts of Cirencester Over the bypass Another supermarket trolley bites the dust We gather round for Ros to to give us a bit of Cirencester's history An unusual seat in the nature reserve With some interesting carving Continuing round Cirencester Bricks in the street marking the boundary of the Roman Forum Do they supply walks leaders? Through a small shopping mall - the Woolmarket Christmas definitely coming That's what we need - free alcohol A busy river Heading for the bandstand For coffee The church across the other side of the park A very old house Then a row of old cottages in Coxwell Street Another important part of the town's history And a more modern work of art We cross over the bypass again Entering the grounds of the hospital And Querns Wood Heading for the Amphitheatre Which we explore Standing on the top To look across the town And imagining the Romans playing games An information board tells us more about it They must have had a cold night Where the Romans parked their chariots Now walking through an industrial estate Making our way over to Siddington Can't be clearer than that Looks like a buzzard on the goal post And a strange shaped house in the distance Now walking along the old canal Past a memorial to Christopher Bowly - a temperance campaigner Walking round the edge of open fields A short road stretch Where we cross the river again Then through the grounds of a large house as we head back to the cars Photos and captions by Richard, processed and uploaded by Sally To find out more about the Cirencester Hare festival, click here
