Coaley walk - Saturday 7 April 2018 Previous Next It's going to be muddy, says Peter As we meet in the village hall CP next to Coaley Church Heading off onto the fields and mud and water A gentle climb Then more water - Brian displaying the "in" fashion for waterproofs, zips undone to above the knee Stopping to look at an old tree A quick hug Then more water Soon reaching Frocester Church Then more muddy fields Escaping from a close encounter with cows Doverow Hill looming in the background As we head towards Leonard Stanley A gate installed by South Cots Timber framed houses in Leonard Stanley Two years obviously long enough We reach Leonard Stanley Church Time for coffee The old priory There's a life-sized lion next door! Crossing a stubble field as we head towards the hills An interesting stile Not long ago it was impassable but pressure from walkers, including Ramblers, got it cleared Contouring round the bottom of Frocester Hill Then heading up through the woods On a broad track Stopping on an old burial mound, the Soldiers Grave Then passing the Nympsfield Long Barrow The view from the top of the hill into the misty valley Following the Cotswold Way Which is now divderted away from the road to cross it at the top of the hill Now making our way downhill To our leaders' house where we have tea on the lawn With cake Served by our friendly waitress Greatly appreciated Garden looking quite colourful But it's time to leave Round the bottom of the hill Cam Long Down over to our right Crossing a field of spring wheat to reach Far Green Then more fields Bringing us back to the start Photos and captions by Richard and Sally, uploaded by Sally
