Forest of Dean walk - Saturday 27 February 2016 Previous Next Deep in the forest something stirred South Cots have journeyed to Cinderford for a walk led by Andrew We pass the site of Ruspidge Halt And make our way into the woods Soon coming to the only stile on our walk - and there was a way round it anyway Old forest dwelling? Signs of the wild boar as well On the lake at Mallard Pike Plenty of activity here Even dogs are provided for Mandarin duck And geese Coffee at a picnic site It's a mermaid on the back of a frog Quickly passing the adventure playground Over a bridge that was built to cross a railway track which never materialised Making good time on the pleasant forest tracks There must have been a high wind The sun now breaking through the trees As we stop to look at the old mine workings Our starting point temptingly close - but we don't go that way Instead we continue along the forest track To reach the Foxes Bridge Colliery Where we stop for lunch And a quick round-up of where we are Arriving back at Cinderford Linear Park, Andrew points out where we are A chance to read the board Before we walk the final 1.5K back to the cars.
