Our second day off and we head for Victoria, the capital, for some retail therapy and history
One of the many alleyways of the old quarter
And a square surrounded by cafes and restaurants
Very keen on religious icons on their buildings
Sally helps the shop assistant with a difficult customer. In fact we are buying presents for Ann to thank her for her hard work on our behalf. Little did we know there was more hard work to come!
And then we break for coffee and cakes in the main square
More tourist traps
Before we head for the Citadel
With its imposing entrance
More alleyways
And fine views
In every direction
To distant towns
And along the top of the Citadel
With its towers
And the densely populated town of Victoria
On top of the battlements - enough to make your hair stand on end
Not been fired in anger for a while
The old bells of the Citadel cast in Ferreria, the foundry of the Knights of St John in Valletta
Continuing round the battlements
Before heading back into town
Not so much wind to blow the hair about
And some splendid flower borders to finish our day in Victoria
On return to Xlendi the wind has enlivened the waves
The terrace of this restaurant is closed and impassable
And this is the view from Ros and Ron's room
