Leighterton walk - Wednesday 11 March 2020 Previous Next All Our leaders look happy and confident We moved away from the noise of the A46 Passing banks of primroses A good path to start with But then we're avoiding the muddy puddles Through a gap in a hedge White deadnettle in flower Peter opens the gate into Westonbirt Arboretum Where we stop for coffee We continue along the drive With some old trees Some illustrated facts Some beautiful signs of Spring. Acer japonicum, Graham says Some props Something else I don't know. Graham says Acer sp And some catkins Missing the badger sett in the wood We go off-piste To avoid the mud There's a strong smell of wild garlic emerging Out into the sunshine With Belted Galloways on the horizon Lunch! Then a difficult stile Getting a bit stretched out Peter leads us into Leighterton Where wallflowers are in flower And there's a beautiful smell. I'm told it's Daphne Odora If you look carefully, you can see an out of focus bee at the top, but the main picture is of Ros' glove as she holds it still in the wind! Chapel And church Road closed for Serious Incident but fortunately there's a route through for Pedestrians Leaving the duck pond behind we head along the road to the cars.
