Minchinhampton walk - Saturday 7 March 2020 Previous Next All We gather on Minchinhampton Common for Jenny's walk Then walk across the common, passing Alfie, the donkey, and his horses Heading towards Box, with Olivia back marking On a gate Signs of Spring This area looks recently cleared We're looking down on the Weighbridge Inn And stop opposite it for coffee There's a torrent pouring out of Hazel Wood Our first circle Descending into Avening there are hellebores And an interesting door Possibly Tibetan? And an ingenious way of inserting the letter box We walk on a little used lane, which has a better surface than most of Gloucestershire's roads - who lives here? A frog footman Lawrence holds back the curious cattle Who continue to follow him And watch us over the stile until we're out of sight A lovely old tree And The Roundabout Our second circle. I can imagine a bear on a motorbike doing this! We descend to Nag's Head. Note our smiling chairman in the middle who rarely get the opportunity to pose Another donkey We stop for lunch at the church in Cherington where the first Concord pilot is buried Leaving Cherington Church A glider overhead We follow the path above Cherington ponds Avening in the distance And are watched by Princess Anne's White Parks And her Highland cattle As we descend to Bubblewell Past the house and uphill to Minch.
