Oakridge walk - Saturday 21 October 2017 Previous Next Preparations for Jill and Sue's Oakridge walk at the village hall A good turnout Despite the presence of Brian (Storm Brian, that is!) Dog camouflaged by dry stone wall Sue's leading today. Gloves and hats in evidence. Down to Baker's Mill And past the hexagonal house below Frampton Mansell It rained a lot last night. Along the canal path Sue waits at the bridge where we cross over to the other side And come out by the Daneway The Portal Where some pose Up to Sapperton past chickens We head to the church Jill tells us these carvings are atlantes, male equivalents of caryatides Sapperton church is now owned by the Churches Conservation Trust We pass an imposing tree house And an equally imposing extension, with thatched roof Autumn leaves And more signs of autumn Though no-one knows what they are called A brief glimpse of Pinbury Before we descend to the stream where Peter and people in wellies wade through But others use the bridge. A discussion ensues! After an ascent, a breather Is this the result of Storm Brian, or maybe Hurricane Ophelia? Sue prepares her wellies and trousers for the rain Another fallen branch Exmoor ponies, I'm told In Siccaridge Wood dormouse boxes The hole at the back near the bark A steep rather slippery descent Spindle berries No chance with us around! A short contour path A horse replaces the old spot piglets here last time we came past Maybe no mobile signal in this part of the world? Photos and captions, processing and uploading by Sally
