Painswick to Harescombe walk - Wednesday 20 April 2016 Previous Next The best weather of the week for Jill's walk We head through "Tony Drake's field" on the Cotswold Way And soon gain views up to Edge Common - where we are heading Bluebells flowering well Erica volunteers to back mark Jill watches us across the Stroud - Gloucester road near the Edgemoor Inn And we continue uphill And Jill tells us a bit about the problems that she met near Harescombe on the walkover But the farmer has made it easy for us and we arrive at Harescombe with the "oldest bell in Gloucestershire." A beautiful interior Wild daffoldils outside and on the alter cloth We spot two bell ropes Leading up to the very unusual bellcote Here are the two bells, one dating from 1181. It was reinstalled in the new 1315 church. We head back across level fields With Haresfield Beacon behind us Several stiles to space us out Almost like parkland here We now cross the Gloucester Road and climb steeply, pausing for the views behind At the top of Huddinknoll Hill And there's Painswick Beacon New trees coming soon? Kingcups in full flower We hear quiet tooting - it's a new method of driving the flock! Our flock awaits Jill to show us the final way back to the cars Photos and captions by Mike
