Painswick walk - Wednesday 17 July 2019 Previous Next All Weld or Dyers Weed. Familiar to all us botanists Toiling up the Beacon Turning to look back over Catbrain Quarry And over Washbrook Valley Difficult to decide which way to look Down to the Severn Or straight down the side of the Beacon Which we soon descend Heading towards Cud Hill Continuing downhill Past a large cottage Then round a field of wheat And through trees A stop for coffee Our path takes us through a herd of cows Down into the valley Then back up past this imposing house Any chance of a lift? Down a long narrow path And then uphill through our second herd of cows A pause at the top A colourful cottage garden Having a quiet chat Vegetation needs cutting back from this stile This must be our lunch stop Looking back up the valley, the spire of Painswick Church in the distance Down Wraggs Castle Lane A wheel among the ferns Haymaking well advanced Steeply down again to a stream Colourful floral displays As we pass through Sheephouse Friendly old ram comes over for a chat The Painswick stream cascading With a quiet pond above Our path passes between two high hedges Then up Stamages Lane into Painswick and back to the start Photos and captions by Richard, uploaded by Sally
