Poulton cricket ground with the church in the background
Lone tree
A local Sewage works
A responsible farmer showing a clear path through his field.
Ampney St Peter, my next destination
The tiny village green at Ampney St Peter
The church at Ampney St Peter. As with all churches, thus was closed so I was unable to see the Saxon nave and a Celtic sheela-na-gig (fertility figure).
A better view of the church's unusual saddleback tower
Some local horses enjoying the grass
Ampney Crucis my next destination
On the Palladian Way for a little while now
The church at Ampney Crucis. As it is closed I was unable to a 16th century effigy of George and Annie Lloyde (I don't know who they are) and traces of Medieval wall paintings
At least I could see this fine Saxon doorway
Leaving Ampney St Mary (the last of the villages. No church here)
Walking along the enclosed Ashbrook Lane (really just a track now) on the way back towards Poulton.
