Selsley Common walk - Wednesday 23 March 2016 Previous Next Peter and Sue meet us on Selsley Common We are ready to go down in the valley and up again at the end Steeply down towards the Stanleys On a misty day * A panoramic shot from Bill Are they with us? Doverow Hill in the distance Nearly caught up! Selsley Church with its Austrian look Did we really come from up there? Down to a footbridge And along a valley Plenty of mistletoe Ripe for redevelopment We pass Stanley Mill Shed heaven The Frome bifurcates here at Ryeford * Bill's photo of the bridge The classic reflection shot * Along the towpath between canal and river We are spotted by a few horses Ryeford Double Lock and the new landing stage Brian and Goliath - a boat that pushes the barges we discover Nearing Ebley Mill we have our coffee stop Must be Spring By the banks of green willow The new Lodgemore Lift Bridge In Stroud we head along the old railway track towards Nailsworth * After a snack at Woodchester Roman Villa site in the old churchyard we head through the village past the newer (1865) church Crossing the stream, we climb up to Lagger Lane * And up past sheep We toil up to Bospin Lane, South Woodchester * Having a breather and looking back at the views * Well strung out now * Zooming over to Rodborough Parish Church, about 2 miles away Then we head back gradually up * Past the resident ponies Towards Selsley Common Passing a new plantation near the cattle grid.
