Sherborne Park walk - Wednesday 31 May Previous Next Quite a good turnout today - is it because Sherborne is hosting Springwatch? Or because of the luxury loos in the NT Car park? At least everybody looks happy As we follow a path into the Sherborne Estate Passing a wooden carving - don't think the artist intended it to be holding flowers And yet another woodland sculpture Continuing on a forest track Past an old cottage Then across some fields of buttercups With views back to the village of Sherborne A red beetle First signs of Springwatch More signs And the headquarters Springwatch again? Or an RAF reconnaissance Fishing for flies A reminder that we are approaching Sherborne Water Meadows Where we take our first break Before making our way along a grassy track On the banks of the Windrush A strip of a meadow given over to wild flowers We pause at a large farm With a farmhouse and imposing outbuildings Some of our more inquisitive members taking a look inside Our path now takes us Round a field Past some interesting grasses as we near the Windrush again Crossing the river on this bridge Where we look up the Windrush to an old mill The view along the river A foxglove Brian checking his GPS to see if he is lost Looking back at the bridge As we pause outside an old barn for lunch Refreshed, we continue on our way Over an old slab stile Following a path through a field of maturing rape And more sheep pastures I think the point has been made Coming back into Sherborne More old cottages She gets everywhere One mile by road but we take to the woods Past the Manor House And the Ice House and back to the cars Photos and captions by Richard, processed and uploaded by Sally
