Sherborne Park walk - Wednesday 31 May Previous Next Quite a good turnout today - is it because Sherborne is hosting Springwatch? At least everybody looks happy Passing a wooden carving - don't think the artist intended it to be holding flowers Continuing on a forest track Then across some fields of buttercups A red beetle More signs Springwatch again? Or an RAF reconnaissance A reminder that we are approaching Sherborne Water Meadows Before making our way along a grassy track A strip of a meadow given over to wild flowers With a farmhouse and imposing outbuildings Our path now takes us Past some interesting grasses as we near the Windrush again Where we look up the Windrush to an old mill A foxglove Looking back at the bridge Refreshed, we continue on our way Following a path through a field of maturing rape I think the point has been made More old cottages One mile by road but we take to the woods And the Ice House and back to the cars Or because of the luxury loos in the NT Car park? As we follow a path into the Sherborne Estate And yet another woodland sculpture Past an old cottage With views back to the village of Sherborne First signs of Springwatch And the headquarters Fishing for flies Where we take our first break On the banks of the Windrush We pause at a large farm Some of our more inquisitive members taking a look inside Round a field Crossing the river on this bridge The view along the river Brian checking his GPS to see if he is lost As we pause outside an old barn for lunch Over an old slab stile And more sheep pastures Coming back into Sherborne She gets everywhere Past the Manor House Photos and captions by Richard, processed and uploaded by Sally
