Shortwood walk - Wednesday 5 June 2019 Previous Next It's really cold, considering it's June The National Trust car park machine isn't working. This man comes to mend it, but says we won't have to pay. Sue spots a butterfly orchid Which everyone looks at. It's going to be a flowery walk, I think. Across fields, not well used Whiteshill church below Through a meadow Getting closer to Whiteshill Where we have a coffee stop And are entertained by small children with hoops and footballs They come from here. Good to have this field to run around in. We're on a narrow path With lovely flowers We discuss which clematis this is And which one this is Colin moves the toad from his place on the path to somewhere safer Catbrain with picture of rabbit Lunch on Edge Common Another butterfly orchid Then we're off Sue spots a helleborine (hope I'm getting these right!) Past the Cromwell stone And the waving doll A new waymark Views over to May Hill We reach the Beacon Bees enjoying this thistle. Not sure what they think about the Race marker.
