Snowshill walk - Saturday 11 January 2020 Previous Next All Everybody looking quite relaxed at the start of Graham's walk - little do they know We set off through Snows Hill Another group of Ramblers from Cheltenham Broadway tower on the horizon We start to head downhill Meeting walkers heading in the opposite direction Just what you expect in the middle of the woods And inside a grindstone to help you sharpen your Ramblers Swiss army knife Together with information boards about the springs And the estate But it's time for coffee With plenty of logs to sit on Behind us is a funnel for herding sheep Down in the valley a herd of cattle And a farm complete with pond We get our first taste of real mud as we follow a farm track Water everywhere Now on the outskirts of Stanway Large farmhouses Through an unusual gate Not a wise chair to fall asleep in Stanway Water Mill Into Stanway The Church First snowdrops Stanway Manor Commemorating the naming of the Cotswold Way as as national trail Leaving Stanway we head out across open parkland With many old trees A thatched roof decorated with a fox And this one with ducks and an owl Now making our way through Stanton And into the churchyard for lunch Where the war memorial provides somewhere to sit A look inside the church And we are off again A last look back As we head out of Stanton Andrew poses for Lenneke as she photographs the post box and phone box Past a small green A stream gurgling down the valley Could have brought a few animals with us Old man's beard standing out We meet the hunt Sheep country As we reach the top of the hill And look down the valley Starting our descent One last look across the valley before the mud and slope render all photographic activity impossible Until we reach the bottom And start our final climb up to Snows Hill Back into the estate And uphill to the cars Photos and captions by Richard, uploaded by Sally
