Soudley Ponds walk - Wednesday 19 October 2016 Previous Next Patrick tells us about the walk he and Angela are taking us on He shows a diagram of the 2 ascents and descents. (There were a few ribald comments!) Lunch is in the middle.. Soudley Ponds look lovely in the sunlight Trees changing colour. Patrick tells us there is a railway line down there somewhere. Evidence of wild boar A steep descent down a grassy slope What is this plant? Perdita is almost lost in it. A different Swiss Cottage (and it didn't look very Swiss either) Dave borrows my camera to go with Patrick and look at interesting railway stuff Somewhere in this undergrowth While the rest of us have coffee. A house that looks more as if it should be in Holland A train passes by Patrick points out that this is an unusual railway bridge Skewed Bullo Pill Two contented pigs A view of the Severn Newnham church on the horizon Patrick tells us about a tunnel that was built under the river here in Victorian times. Read more about it below A large anchor And a buoy At our lunch stop We make the promised second ascent With lovely views of the bends in the river We enter woods And can see Arlingham Passage and its access road across the river from this viewpoint nor far from the cars. Photos (apart from 3 by Dave) and captions, processing and uploading by Sally To find out more about the failed Severn Tunnel look here
