Stonehouse walk - Saturday 29 February 2020 Previous Next All The sun is shining. Alex is waxing lyrical about mud. We are ready to go Past Stonehouse village green Through the Park Estate. I moved into that house at the age of nine Stonehouse Football club And across the railway Field very waterlogged. Must be an amphibious horse Old farmhouse New estate If it's not mud it's water Stream running high Plenty of machinery to get the job done At least they have marked out the line of the footpath Then comes more mud and water Requiring careful footwork Spring on the way Whose got the longest beard? Past a small pond As we head towards Standish Church I've got my eye on you lot An impressive entrance Coffee in the Church entrance Setting off we look at the tombstones More flowers A short road walk Then we follow a footpath with a waymark indicating a railway coming up Which we cross At the start of the junction of the Bristol and Swindon lines We now follow a stream - the Arle Our path crossing a damaged stile Then the infamous water pipeline A thatched cottage With a sheep dip in the garden Views now across to Vinegar Hill And up the valley to Haresfield Woods Another road walk Haresfield Beacon off to our left And ducks with their own muddy pond to our right Beyond the farm we have more views of the Beacon The Severn in the distance And now splendid views of the incinerator Now following a wide track in Standish woods Eventually pausing for lunch Now heading downhill I didn't fall. Just having a rest And a chance to look over Stonehouse and beyond Guard dog Over the pipeline again Heading down into Stonehouse Past the station And the station master's garden and back to the cars Photos and captions by Richard, uploaded by Sally
