Thursday 15 September 2016 - Shorter walk near Llangorse Lake Previous Next On arrival at Llangorse Lake we get a good view of the Beacons The ducks are only interested in one thing The lake reveals itself sparingly Wonder if Sally took a better picture? We head to the reconstruction of a crannog - a mini man made island - see link below to read more The best view Clear water We set off across the common A beautiful morning The lake is surrounded by reeds and the path is well away from the edge in the interests of the wildlife Mynydd Llangorse, over 500m, is nearby The dew shows up on the spider webs This one is striking We regroup And set off along the board walk We are not expecting rain - perhaps the cattle know something? Another view of lake and mountain We head slightly uphill To Llangasty church We go though the gate And see several gravestones to the Raikes family members A Victorian painted interior On the hillside fern is being harvested. It will be compressed and used for biomass heating Heading along the road we read about Treberfydd walled garden And yes, it is open A very pleasant place to be On this sunny morning Perchance to dream After a few hundred yards we reach the village hall where we picnic and look at more views The only hill of the day, which leads to ... ... a great view of Fan y Big and Pen y Fan Turning round we can still see Llangorse lake Our return journey takes us along a quiet track The wild sloes look good this year We reach Llanfihangel Tal-y-llyn Common A damp place full of reeds And we are soon back on Llangorse Common, where these horses live They look well And are used to tourists A nice cup of tea and a laugh at the end.
