Harpford and Newton Poppleford below us As we make our way along the top of the hill To White Cross where we look out over Ottery St Mary and the hills of Dartmoor Descending we encounter a swing A chance for the children to show off Who can swing the highest? Full marks for style Continuing down into the valley where trees are blossoming A bit of the Coleridge Link Farmers have been making patterns in their fields Reaching the River Otter A very tall early purple orchid Still on the Otter We cross over To the opposite bank To look at a sluice An old railway bridge A little egret sees us coming And heads for the trees A beaver has had a go at this tree Our route takes us into Harpford And then into Harpford Woods Crossing a stream which proves something of a challenge before heading on to Bowd to catch a bus This evening is all fun and games Involving, amongst other things, magnetic darts Which brings out the best in some. A bulls eye Sue looks pleased Enid trying to emulate her And afterwards we have the prize giving where all participants receive a Mars Bar Photos and captions by Richard, processed and uploaded by Sally
