Winchcombe Steam walk - Wednesday 18 October 2017 Vans, buses and coaches cause chaos in Winchcombe Railway car park Dropping off school children pretending to be evacuees At last we get into the car park, buy tickets and wait on the other platform There's an Air Raid shelter With instructions as to what to do. We didn't have the gas masks. It's a dreary day But the arrival of the steam engine brightens the day - one of the latest built, Patrick tells us Inside we sit down with the smell of bacon rolls wafting over us Patrick tells us to listen and see if we can hear whether the train slips on the wet track going uphill Very soon we get off At Gotherington The train ready to depart and our cigarettes stubbed out in the correct receptacle Our walk takes us fairly parallel with the railway line so we can see the train at frequent intervals And stop to watch it on its journey We get to this field where it is suggested that we pose for a group photo under this sign They have a lot of sponsors for this event Which involves Mud Coffee stop We pass this shelter with its Latin motto - something about "like in a storm". Looks as if it was built by the Romans, anyway At Stanley Pontlarge Patrick points out the former home of L.T. Rolt who wrote about canals and heritage railways More steam, this time from a manure heap Autumn colours Small dog making big noise And chickens And alpacas I try to photo the face of the multi-coloured one but he hides his head - I won't make a wildlife photographer The train can be seen in the station As it pulls away, we listen. "4 chuffs to a revolution", says Patrick. Never learned that at school! Signals And then we are back and into the cafe. Photos, captions, processing and uploading by Sally Previous Next
