Wysis Way 5 - Saturday 9 September 2017 Previous Next Mike took these on the walkover* A rare picture of our joint leader* Graham completed the whole Wysis Way on the walkover* Speculation CP again. Boots freshly polished. Ready to start the last leg of the Wysis Way Rapt attention from the ladies as Mike gives a pre walk talk Tempting Heading up through the Forest Now on a grassy track A pause while we sort out the direction Eventually leaving the woods For open fields Again blackberries prove a temptation A couple of photos from Mike to prove Richard was there* Richard skilfully checking we are still coming* Continuing uphill past a derelict barn Now enjoying a spot of rain and a short road walk Before turning off And continuing through the Forest Steeply downhill Past an old mine shaft On through the woods Then the steepest climb of the day Through Lady Park Wood To reach Near Harkening Rock A good spot for lunch Sheltered from possible rain* Lunch in dappled sunshine* Then it's downhill to the Suck Stone An even bigger lump of stone Continuing downhill we come to a forest track And stop to look back at the stone Partly hidden by the trees Mike's picture from below* Turning round we have views over to the Brecons Before continuing along the track Past a stone and an oak tree commemorating the life of a deputy surveyor in the Forest Our path follows a route through dense forest But eventually comes out on a grassy bank With views over the surrounding countryside Leading up to the Kymin and afternoon tea We now have views to the Brecons and down to Monmouth Then it's downhill past a pile of sheep Followed by pigs Continuing downhill on a rough track The sign at the bottom of the hill telling us where we have been As we cross the Wye and enter Monmouth Ready for the presentation to 5 of the 6 members who completed every stage of the trail - first to Mike Then Lenneke Alex looking somewhat overawed Sally All of us proudly displaying our certificates And back up to Kymin - did we really walk up there?
